Hello! My name is Mrs. Megan Cooper. I am thrilled to be teaching first grade again this school year. COVID changed and challenged life for many of us, and I am grateful to be able to return to a (hopefully) normal school year once again. I have been teaching for 23 years (1 year 3rd Grade, 7 years Kindergarten and 15 years First Grade), all at La Center Elementary. I live in rural Battle Ground but love the La Center community so much that I willingly drive in every day. My husband Greg and I have one cat named Lily and a very energetic and adorable dog named Gus, the 5 pound wonder Chiweenie! I enjoy reading, crafts, knitting, movies, music, photography and technology. Teaching is truly a passion of mine and one that I take very seriously. I want to start your child off on the right foot by giving him/her a great classroom experience. Please contact me if you have any questions or comments.
My Commitment to You and Your ChildI am committed to:
* sending home bi-weekly newsletters which includes upcoming events * being open and honest in my communication with you regarding your child even when the news may not be so great * providing conference appointments at least twice a year * being available for additional conferences, phone calls, e-mails, brief conversations, and communication by note as needed. Times outside of school that I can be reached are 7:30 AM-8:00 AM and 3:10-PM- 3:30 PM on most days by appointment. (Because I want to give your child my best when they are in class, if you call during teaching and learning times, I may allow voice mail to answer. Thank you for understanding!) |
Statement of PhilosophyBelow are some of my beliefs regarding education. I feel that it is important to share these, so that you know what your child will be experiencing with me throughout the school year.
I believe…. ¶ school should be enjoyable and productive ¶ in the power of language; spoken, written, heard, set to music, and non-verbal ¶ socializing is a learned and important skill ¶ in the importance of purposeful play. It is not a waste of time; great learning and problem solving can develop from play. ¶ that movement and songs help facilitate learning and engage the brain ¶ in respect for others. This includes adult to child, adult to adult, child to adult, and child to child. ¶ in nurturing positive self-worth and internal motivation ¶ in the power of thinking; questioning, comparing, contrasting, finding multiple approaches to obtaining answers, working through problems, and discovering consequences ¶ in fostering responsibility, self-reliance, and independent work skills ¶ every child can learn and be successful if given the tools ¶ if the family is positively involved with education, the student will be better able to meet academic and social challenges ¶ every child is different and should be treated as such ¶ children sometimes need to be pushed to reach their potentials ¶ that LEARNING is FUN! |
